5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LAST LONGER

We’ve all struggled with having to run to the bathroom to check our makeup and even having to reapply it in a hurry. I’ve learned several ways to help prevent this struggle.

Here are five ways to make your makeup last longer:

PRIMER

Primer is the product that gives your foundation something to grip onto. Not using a primer is one reason why your makeup doesn’t stay in place all day. I recommend using a primer after moisturizing your face to give your foundation a nice base. I like to use various primers depending on my current skin issues; these are some of my go-to’s.

If I want to cover my pores, I will use either of these primers:

• Elf Poreless Putty Primer

• BECCA Ever-matte Poreless Priming Perfector

If I want to focus on having a shine-free, smooth look, I will use this primer:

• Smashbox The Original Photo Finish Smooth & Blur Primer

Using a primer will help guarantee that your foundation will stay in place all day, so you don’t have to reapply your makeup.

SETTING POWDER:

Setting powder will help control any shine that’s on your face and can be easily reapplied. Using a setting powder if you have oily skin like me will help control that shine and give you a matte appearance. I like to use two kinds of setting powder: loose powder and pressed powder.

I recommend using:

• Airspun Loose Powder

• No7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder

I find that using the loose powder to set my under-eye area and baking my contour gives a nice brightness to my face. The pressed powder is used to thoroughly set the rest of my face ensuring that all liquid products stay in place.

INGREDIENTS

The biggest mistake that could be causing your makeup to come off throughout the day is ignoring your product’s chemical makeup. What I mean by this is that you shouldn’t wear products with different chemical makeups because they won’t blend. If you were to wear products with different chemical makeups, your foundation could break up on your face over time, giving the appearance that it has worn off.

The best way to avoid this is to check the main ingredient of your products. An example of not checking this is wearing the Smashbox primer, which is silicone-based with a water-based foundation. Wearing that combination, the foundation would start to break up throughout your face because the water-based foundation won’t mix with the silicone-based primer leaving it with nothing to hold onto your skin with.

BROW GEL

If you have to apply a generous amount of product to your eyebrows like me, you might notice that the pigment can change throughout the day. The best way to ensure your brows stay in place all day is by using a clear brow gel.

My favorites are:

• ABH Clear Brow Gel

• NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel

Using a clear brow gel on top of a pencil or gel product will help keep your brows in place all day.

SETTING SPRAY

The best way to ensure that your makeup will last throughout the day is by setting your face. Setting spray seals your makeup so it won’t transfer or wear off throughout your day.

My favorite setting sprays are:

• NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray

• Pixi by Petra Rose Glow Mist

Using a setting spray to finish off your makeup will allow it to seal your makeup onto your skin. It’s always a great idea to respray your face throughout the day to help freshen up your makeup.
